HHF became an official charitable foundation in 2006 and was initially started to aid children affected by the Asian Tsunami that claimed almost 300,000 innocent lives. HHF broadened their mission and they are now helping other countries affected by natural disasters.
They are in nine countries, mainly in Asia and the Americas. The mission of Happy Hearts Fund is to improve children's lives through educational and sustainable programs in natural disaster areas. To date, HHF has built or rebuilt 55 schools benefitting more than 34,000 children and over 337,000 community members. HHF receives specific donations to underwrite all administrative and fundraising expenses, allowing all public donations to support HHF programs.
“HHF empowers children with the tools they need to build a better and sustainable life for themselves, their families, communities and their country. It breaks my heart to think what these children have gone through, they deserve stability and a bright future.” said Petra Nemcova, HHF’s Founder and Chair.
Petra has received several accolades for her philanthropic work for children around the globe including The United Nations, Women Together, Do Something and numerous other organizations.
She is the author of “Love Always, Petra,” a book about her life and Tsunami survival. She wrote this book to help children affected by the Tsunami and all the proceeds were sent to support Thai children.
